Update: health trainers will be provided for Chatteris, Manea and Doddington when a new contract begins in April 2015.
Health trainers provide free confidential advice and support on eating, exercise, alcohol, and giving up smoking, which helps prevent future health problems for patients and reduces workload for GPs.
Fifteen GP practices in Cambridgeshire have access to health trainers, including in Wisbech, March, Whittlesey and Littleport. However Chatteris, Doddington and Manea do not. This does not make sense.
We call on the Health & Wellbeing Board and Cambridgeshire Public Health to undertake and publish an “equity of access” review into the potential benefit of more preventative health services available through GP surgeries, such as smoking cessation or weight loss advice, and as a matter of urgency to appoint health trainers in Chatteris, Manea and Doddington
